AbstractThis paper is based on the author.s experiences as a teacher of human rights law at the University of the South Pacific. The author emphasises the need to design a learning environment that allows students to share experiences, and thereby realise that they personally have a potential role in transforming or maintaining the human rights environment in their countries. The need to reduce compartmentalization in curricula, and to include human rights throughout a variety of courses is also discussed.
